High-flyers

The Management Trainee Programme ("MT") and the YoungSTAR Programme ("YoungSTAR") give structured trainings to high-flyers at junior level. This set of training focuses on business exposure, innovation, and intermediate management and professional knowledge to equip the young talents to uplift themselves to the talent pool. The two-year holistic MT Programme starts with a comprehensive and strategic recruitment mechanism and comprises all-round trainings covering different hard and soft skills, and also job rotation across operations and localities. Mentors and buddies are chosen to support each trainee's career and personal development. MTs are required to complete assignments and present such to the top management. Through this process, mutual sharing among MTs, mentors, buddies, hosting department and the top management are enhanced, and fresh ideas from MTs are absorbed and adopted where appropriate. While the MT Programme targets at new recruits, the YoungSTAR Programme is its counterpart that serves to retain, nurture and develop existing talented staff graded manager or below with contents similar to the MT Programme. The two programmes are strategically integrated to allow new ideas from the two different groups of young talents to bombard with each other and thereby achieve synergy.

Talent Pool

Talent pool refers to the group of A-performers of management level who have the potential to become top executives. We have for them mini-EMBA education such as the New World Star Executive Development Programme ("STAR") and the Accelerating Management Talent Programme ("AMT") powered by the Ivey Business School - Asia. While the former is a tailor-made programme exclusively for New World Group, the latter is an open programme that connects business executives of different fields together. Both targets to strengthen participants' leadership, management skills, business vision and international perspective, which are qualities needed for New World’s future top leaders. STAR and AMT graduates have respectively set up the STAR Alumni Club and AMT Alumni Club which advocate continuous learning among club members and sharing with other colleagues.

From UNITI to UNITY

Apart from the numerous strategic talent development initiatives depicted above, special efforts are placed in the promotion and furtherance of our new core values UNITI. They are derived from our Vision-Mission-Value rejuvenation exercise earlier in 2012 that targeted to bond together and lead our 47,000-strong workforce. UNITI workshops were held in which our top management explained in person the meaning and essence of UNITI. Proud stories of the New World Group were presented as well.
