New World Group proceeds with new developments in a new direction with innovation.
An outstanding management team is crucial for the Group to change and evolve. Dedicated
and professional talents are the key to drive the development of the Group in today's
fast-changing world. Therefore, we endeavor to create an ideal working environment
for our staff members and attract, develop and retain talents through competitive
employment package and incentive policies.
Nurture an Outstanding Team
New World Group is committed to providing comprehensive training for its staff in
order to help them in achieving outstanding performance. In 2010, NWD and its subsidiaries
were awarded with "Manpower Developer 1st" under the ERB Manpower Developer
Award Scheme, proving their commitment and excellent performance in staff training.
The Group continuously arranges regular internal training courses in order to improve
our employees' skills in leadership, management, customer services, occupational
safety, interpersonal communications and self-improvement.
The Group Training and Development Department has established a comprehensive training
system namely "The New World University" in January 2011, providing sustainable
and systematic staff training in the long run. "The New World University"
comprises five programmes, namely "New World Star Executive Development Programme"
("NWSED" Programme), "Accelerating Management Talent Programme"
("AMT" Programme), Management Trainee Programme, Annual Management Forum
and series of training courses, with an aim to enhance the management and working
skills of staff members.
Co-launched by NWD and Richard Ivey School of Business of The University of Western
Ontario, NWSED Programme is a 15-month leadership training programme offered to
senior executives of New World Group. The Group has also invited managerial staff
to join the 12-day "AMT" Programme to exchange ideas on management and
establish network. The Group expects that the participating employees can inspire
each other's creativity and, upgrade the management skills.
In 2010, the Group kick started its second "New World Group Management Trainee
Programme" in Hong Kong and the "New World Group PRC Management Trainee
Programme" in Mainland China. Both programmes comprise cross-industry on-the-job
trainings and mentorship schemes to equip trainees with managerial skills. They
can also learn the business and working culture of the Group, benefiting to their
career development.
In July 2010, the Group held its first Management Forum themed "Change Management
and Proactive Leadership". With an aim to encourage managerial staff members
to explore ways to implement management revolution and promote team morale in changing
times, guest speakers from Tertiary institutions, business corporations and the
Group's management shared their ideas on new managerial skills and their relationship
with crisis management. Group activities were organized to deepen the participants'
understanding of the Group's Vision, Mission and Core Values. The Group hopes to
encourage innovation and unity among its management through forum of such kind.
Enhance Two-way Communication
We take two-way communication the key to build up a harmonious working environment.
Through different channels like monthly newsletters, the Group intranet, emails
and staff magazine, the staff are kept abreast of the latest development of the
Group, promoting their sense of belongings.
To further enhance communication flow among group companies, the Group Intranet
has been revamped in December 2010, in which links of Group Companies’ intranet,
Phone Directory, suggestion box and discussion forum "Net Work" were newly
included. Colleagues working in different locations for different group companies
can contact and share their thoughts with other staff members through these channels.
To enhance the transparency of group management and improve communication between
them and staff members, Group Human Resources Committee has initiated a programme
named "Luncheon with Adrian" commencing in 2010, during which senior management
can interact directly with staff members of different job functions and levels from
different group companies.
Various luncheons were organized in May, July, October 2010 and January 2011. Staff
members from NWD, NWS Holdings, NWCL and NWT shared their expectation and views
on their companies and the Group with Mr Adrian Cheng, Executive Director of New
World Group and Chairman of the Group Human Resources Committee, respectively.
In April 2008, the "Speaking with Adrian" blog was set up. With a view
to establishing a bilateral and open communication platform, Mr Adrian Cheng, Executive
Director of the New World Group, shares his view on the Group's development in the
blog and encourages staff to give their feedback.
Sports and Recreation Club
New World Group cares about our staff's personal growth and is committed to providing
ideal working environment for staff. As a result, a Sports and Recreation Club has
been set up by the Group in 2008. Regular events such as Spring Dinner, sports activities,
interest classes and company trips are organized in order to encourage employees
and their families to participate in staff gathering and thus improving the understanding
towards each other. Sports and Recreation Club is going to organize a "Group
Fun Day" in 2011to build up team spirit among its staff. Colleagues and their
family members will be invited to join the challenging games on the Group Fun Day.
Sports and Recreation Club has organized various competitions like New World Group
Singing Contest and Mahjong Competition since its establishment. Overwhelming responses
were received from colleagues in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Besides, the Group
encourages sense of belongings among staff by organizing charity and community work.
Corporate Volunteer Teams
New World Group encourages participation in voluntary services in the community
by its management and staff members in their spare time to bring out the spirit
of a supportive community, and in turn to enhance team morale and spirit. NWCL Corporate
Volunteer team has its branch teams scattering in different regions in Mainland
China. NWS has also established its "NWS Volunteer Alliance" based on
the vision of "serving our society with what we know, what we have and what
our heart has told us". In 2010, the Group established a "Green New World"
volunteer team which mainly focuses on voluntary work related to environmental protection
in order to join hands to build a better environment..
Care for Staff
In January 2011, New World Group aligns the staff benefits of different group companies
to further enhance the working conditions of its staff. Apart from implementing
5-day week, Paternity Leave, Examination Leave and Birthday Leave are offered to
staff members. Besides, the Group has launched a new staff discount card for employees
to enjoy discount at designated operations in the Group.
To encourage the staff to have a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle and stay away
from Influenza, New World Group and some of its group companies provided free Influenza
Immunization for staff during flu season and gave a seasonal fresh fruit to its
staff every day during the "Fruit for Health Week", encouraging them to
have more fruit and maintain good health. The Group also encourages subsidiaries
to hold workshops and seminars for staff to assist them in relieving life and work-related
stress.
In addition, New World Group supports the "Work-Life Balance" programme organized
by The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, encouraging the staff to lead a balance of life.
