Environmental protection has become a globally urgent
task. As a responsible corporate citizen, New World Group is actively concerned
about and participates in environmental protection. The Group has established the
Group Environmental Committee leading various group companies to actively formulate
environmental targets, drive the implementation of green measures and promote environmental
protection both internally and externally. The Group has also properly formulated
and effectively implemented its Group Environmental Policy so as to contribute to

New World Green Week 2011 Kickoff Ceremony promotes “Scuppies Spirit”
On 5 June, the New World Green Week 2011 held by New World Group had its kickoff ceremony in the K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong to coincide the World Environment Day. The Second New World Green Week, with its theme "Scuppies Spirit", promotes green living among the public and staff of the Group through various green activities. Mr Wong Yiu-Kam, Benny, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection, HKSAR Government; Mr Chen Guan-Zhan, Gary, General Manager of NWD and Mr Chan Ching-Pong, Kelvin, Assistant General Manager, Operation of K11 officiated the kickoff ceremony. The kickoff ceremony was a carbon neutral event with certificate issued by Carbon Care Asia. Carbon emissions incurred in the event was offset through our support to the Northwest Sichuan Afforestation and Reforestation Project. To visualize the Scuppies Spirit, the Group has launched the Scuppies website (www.newworldscuppies.com.hk) and distributed free copies of Scuppies pamphlets during the New World Green Week.

New World Group Holds “Make it Green! Product Design Competition”
New World Group and Greeners Action are co-organizing the "Make it Green! Product Design Competition". Targeting at changing peoples' wasteful habits, participants are expected to create novel and practical green products for the competition. They are encouraged to undergo environmentally-friendly considerations when choosing materials, such as using recyclable materials, considering their life cycle and extraction process and reusing materials. The competition comprises three categories, namely the Junior High School Category, the Senior High School Category and the Open Category. Champion teams will be invited to a Taiwan Green Tour. Experiencing the green culture there, the winners will sow the seed of environmental care when back in Hong Kong, raising peoples' concern about our environment and putting green insights into actions.
About 200 submissions were received with astonishing ideas of the green advocates who are bold to execute their boundless creativity. The award presenting ceremony of the competition was held successfully on 5 June 2011. Judges of the competition, Mr Cheng Man-Si, Jason, Representative from Board of Director of Greeners Action, and Professor Siu King-Chung, Assistant Professor of School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, were invited to present the awards to winners as token of appreciation. To encourage the public to reduce over-consumption on natural resources and contribute to the Earth creatively, the winning products were displayed at K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong and Discovery Park Shopping Centre in June 2011.

New World Group launches Green e-Change Platform
On 17 May, to align with the Group’s commitment to protecting the enviornment in an innovative way, a brand new platform “New World Group Green e-Change Platform” has been launched at the Group’s intranet for colleagues in Hong Kong in May 2011. Users can offer their items which are no longer in need to other colleagues, serving the purpose of recycling and strengthening the bonding and harmony among colleagues.

New World Group Environmental Committee holds site visit to St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School
On 27 May, New World Group Environmental Committee held a site visit to St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School, which clinched the Gold Award in the Primary School Category of the “2009 Hong Kong Awards of Environmental Excellence Sectoral Awards” for its achievement in minimizing food-waste and effective implementation of internal green education. Other than visiting the School’s famous “Zero Food-Waste Canteen”, participants also visited various green facilities in the campus, such as green roof, organic farm and compost, gaining much inspiration.

Green New World Volunteers Experiencing Organic Farming with People with Intellectual Disabilities
Green New World Volunteers (“the team”) of New World Development organized the “Green New World – Hong Chi Farmstead Organic Farming” volunteering activity in May 2011. The team visited the Hong Chi Farmstead which provides training to the young adults with intellectual disabilities to practise organic farming and gardening skills at the Pinehill Village in Tai Po. Under the guidance of the Farmstead farmers, the team provided farm practice voluntary services together with the trainees after being introduced to field work skills, such as ploughing, weeding, seed-sowing and fertilizing. The team also picked fresh herbs inside the Farmstead and make herbal tea together with the trainees to gain knowledge of herbs and enjoy the fun of collaboration with the trainees.

New World Group Provides Free Electric Vehicles Charging Service
Always being committed to building green community, New World Group provides free electric vehicle charging service in parking area of some of its properties including New World Tower, K11 Art Mall, Discovery Park Shopping Centre, Riviera Plaza, etc., echoing with the HKSAR government’s plan to promote usage of electric vehicles. Depending on the demand, the Group plans to install more electric chargers in 2012-14, expecting a total of 33 charging devices being installed in Hong Kong by then.

New World Group Actively Participates in “Earth Hour 2011”
On 26 March, New World Group fully supported “Earth Hour 2011”, organized by WWF, in 73 premises of the Group in Hong Kong and Mainland China, by switching off their non-essential lights for an hour from 8:30pm, showing the Group’s obligation to carbon reduction and environmental protection. The participating properties included landmarks like HKCEC, K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong, The Masterpiece, The Avenue of Star, Beijing New World Centre, Dalian New World Tower and Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, Wuhan K11 Art Mall and more.
Apart from encouraging all property projects located in 20 cities to participate jointly in this event, NWCL also encouraged its employees and 70,000 property owners to switch off all lights in their residence and called for a gradual low-carbon life in their daily practice.

Green New World Volunteers Helps with the 18th Green Power Hike
The Green New World Volunteers ("the Team") is devoted to environmental protection. Recently, the Team participated in Green Power Hike as volunteers at the Tai Tam Road Checkpoint, giving encouragement and support to the participants. The activity is held by Green Power every year to raise fund for promoting green education for students in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. The number of participating runners is over 3,000 in 2011.

New World Group Echoes with "Order less, Waste less" Food Waste Reduction Scheme
Supporting the "Order less, Waste less" food waste reduction scheme, New World Group has reduced two main courses in the spring dinner and will encourage staff to bring leftovers home with their own food containers. Representative from the Group attended the launch event called "Order less, Waste less year-end Reception".
Other than reducing food waste, the Group will abandon shark fin soup in the menu and also offset the carbon emissions incurred in the event through supporting the Northwest Sichuan Afforestation and Reforestation Project, Yunnan Dujiacun Small Hydropower Project and Ningxia Yinyi 49.50 MW Wind-farm Project, making the event a carbon neutral one with the help from Carbon Care Asia.

New World Group Participates in the Green Reminders Programme
To Promote Wastes Separation for Recycling with Environmental Protection Department
To echo the Minimising Waste, Maximising the Future Campaign - Green Reminders Programme, the New World Group has increased the number of recycling bins in its premises, such as K11 Art Mall, Discovery Park Shopping Centre and Youth Square. The Group has also put up posters and messages at relevant locations to remind members of the public to discard waste properly into recycling bins and spread the waste reduction message. Representative from the Group attended the launch event on 8 January 2011 to show its support.
Through participating in the programme, the Group aims at encouraging people for their participation in reducing and recycling waste in their daily lives.
